Boxing is effectively a combat between two competitors who attempt to land punches on one another in a fenced off square ring with judges scoring points as blows are landed.

Participants wear padded gloves and spar in protective head-gear to minimise the possibility of injury. But you can also box as a workout without ever hitting anyone (or being hit yourself). Most local gyms also offer boxing style workouts as part of their usual class timetable, and many have sessions just for women.
